Dangerous Dragons

16th January 2010

After spending a few days on Pulau Kanawa, I decided to head back to Labuanbajo as the weather had turned bad...there was a lot of rain and strong winds. Once back in Labuanbajo, I knew that I had to go and see the famous Komodo dragons before leaving Flores!!

Pulau Kanawa

 12th January 2010

After spending a couple of days relaxing and checking out Labuanbajo...I decided it was time to journey to one of the nearby islands and soak up some sun...and some more relaxing, quiet time to myself. There are many small islands just a couple of hours from Labuanbajo...I decided to go to Pulau Kanawa.

Lovely Labuanbajo

9th January 2010

From Bajawa I travelled for a full day (9 hours!!!) through the rugged mountainous terrain to Labuanbajo...although the trip was really rough...the scenery was amazing! Again I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere...in the middle of huge mountains and travelling by rice fields...it was beautiful scenery but...I was excited to be heading out of the mountains (and the cold) and ending my long over-road journey of Flores. Also excited to see the sea and be on the tip of the west coast of Flores!

Beautiful Bajawa

7th - 8th January 2010

I arrived in Bajawa just before sunset and booked in to Edelweis Hotel. Bajawa is a quiet, relaxed hill town and is the main trading centre of the Ngada people, one of the most traditional groups in Flores.

Wonderful Wogo

 7th January 2010
It was a long journey in the car from Moni to Kampung Wogo - a large traditional village - one of the largest and most traditional in the area, although disappointing that electricity is now available in the village.

Kelimutu

 5th January 2010

'Kelimutu' - the most famous tourist spot in Flores (some say the most spectacular sight in the whole of Nusa Teggara Timor) - the coloured lakes that are formed within the craters of a massive volcano. The three lakes are different colours and they change colours at different times of the year.

Moni - Monday Market

4th January 2010

Moni is a very small village perched on the edge of the mountain and sits either side of the Highway...which can be a little crazy when bemos are passing by! But it is quiet and pretty. I feel like I am in the middle of nowhere...this mountainous region is so remote from anywhere!

Fabulous Flores - Maumere to Moni

3rd January 2010

Once leaving Pulau Rote and returning to Kupang, I decided to buy a ticket to Flores.
So, tomorrow - yet again - new island and another new adventure! Finally going to Flores!

Rugged Rote

28 December 2009

After surviving the flooded roads of West Timor, I headed to Pulau Rote - I had wanted to go there for a very long time and finally I was going to get there!! I was dreaming of beautiful remote beaches that I was soon to discover...

Time for Timor

Boxing Day 2009

I have contempated a lot about this journey - a solo trek to the unknown...the unexplored! It's exciting...it's scary! But it's time to explore new places and meet new faces!

A new adventure - NUSA TENGGARA TIMOR

I am going to back track a little to Boxing Day 2009 - time for my annual holiday and of course I had a ticket to Indonesia! My plan was to travel to the eastern islands - NUSA TENGGARA TIMOR, which I hadn't ventured past Lombok before so I was very excited.

Beginnings of my Journey

The journey began when I was 14 or 15...and I have not looked back!

On that first journey to Indonesia...something touched my heart or possibly even stole a small part of my heart...something reached into my soul and I still continue to search for more knowledge and deeper understandings about the Indonesian language, culture, traditions and The Arts.
